How busy was the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport in March?
In two words? They’d be “holy cow.”
The airport saw 70,463 people board flights to one of XNA’s 15 destinations, and its previous March high was 61,090.
Think about it: The only airport providing commercial air service in the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers metropolitan statistical area had exceeded 60,000 passengers in March just twice in its 20 years, but it now flies past 70,000.
The 185,478 passengers during the first three months of this year were 12.6 percent more than the same time period in 2018. In all, 20,711 more people boarded flights during the first three months compared to January, February and March 2018.
The airport experienced 70,000 passengers or more just four times prior to March this year.
XNA should see another nice boast in passengers in the coming months as new air service is on its way. The new service includes:
- Frontier Airlines plans to start making trips to Denver in late June.
- Allegiant Air in June will add Nashville service, making it the airline’s fifth destination from XNA. The others are Las Vegas, Orlando, Los Angeles and Destin.
- American Airlines announced its new service to Philadelphia will start in September. The city will become XNA’s 17th nonstop destination.
